Kathak Dance By Pandit Birju Maharaj Kalpana Image Archives - Dancers and dances from the world
Kathak is a dance form from North of India, that was introduced during the Mughal period. With its intricate foot work, Kathak resembles the Spanish Flamengo in many ways. Pandit Birju Maharaj, one of the old maestros os Kathak is legendary. In 2007, I saw him and his troupe peform at the old fort in Delhi. His troupe included other well known dancers like Sashwati Sen, who had danced in the Satyajit Ray film "Shatranj ke Khiladi" (The chess players). Delhi's chief minister Ms. Sheila Dikshit was also there. Here are some images from that show.
