Italy Image Archives of Kalpana
Welcome to Italy Image archives of Kalpana. I live in Bologna and thus, I had many more opportunities to click images in Bologna. For this reason,
the Bologna images are on a separate page. This page presents the part 1 of my remaining images from Italy including cities such as Venice, Verona, Rome and Florence, but also
some lesser known small cities such as Città del Castello, Schio, etc. Images are grouped according to the regions. Under each group there are groups of
thumbnails of images. Click on any thumbnail in a group to open the page with bigger images of that group of pictures.
All images on Kalpana are under Creative Commons licence. You are free to use them but remember
to give credit to Kalpana and provide a link to the page from where you took that picture. All these images were taken by Sunil Deepak. You can also check the
Image Archive Index for images from other parts of the world.

Tuscany Region Images Florence, Siena, Pisa
Florence (1)
Florence, the capital of Tuscany region, does not need an introduction. The centre of rennaisance period, it has enough to drive a photographer
sick with "clickitis". From my huge collection of images from Florence, selecting 72 images for presenting here took me a long time. This first collection of
24 images is mainly from the area around Arno river and the wonderful old bridge on the river. The images presented here in 3 groups are from 2006 to 2009 period.

Pisa
Because of the leaning tower, Pisa does not need an introduction. There are many leaning towers in Italy but it is the white marble with exquisite workmanship
and the way Piazza dei Miracoli (Miracle square) has been designed with the round baptistry, the rectangular cathedral and the round tower, surrounded by verdant
green grass, that makes this place so special. Click on any thumbnail below to open the page

Siena (1)
The main square of Siena, where the annual Palio horse race takes place is a breath-taking sight. No pictures do justice to that square
since its depth is a key element of its beauty. Shaped like a gently sloping plate, it gives me a sense of liberation. Click on any thumbnail below to open the page

Siena (2)
In October 2010, we were back in Siena for a second visit. These images are from that visit. The warm earthy colours
of Sienna continue to exercise their magic.

Umbria Region Images Assisi, Gubbio
Assisi
The name of Assisi is linked to that of its saint, Francesco (Francis), who was born here, who discovered persons affected with leprosy in a ghetto in Rivotorto and
lived in Santa Maria degli Angeli at the bottom of the hill. Click on any thumbnail below to open the page with bigger images of this group of pictures.

Gubbio
Gubbio a small medieval town, not very far from Assisi and well known for the story of St Francis and the wolf. I love the earthy colours of houses
and the narrow streets of Gubbio, winding up and down the hill. Click on any thumbnail below to open the page with bigger images of this group of pictures.

Brussa and Concordia
While Concordia is a small town, well known for its roman ruins, Brussa is a small non descript place between Caorle and Bibione. However, for almost 30 years, every year
during our holidays at the seacoast in Veneto, we have a tradition to go and eat fish at Mazarack's restaurant in Brussa. I like to take pictures of the
reflections of boat sheds, bamboo poles and the bridge on the still water of its canals. Here are some images from both these places.

United colours of Caorle
The Seaside town of Caorle attracts thousands of tourists every year. To distinguish itself from the other charming seaside towns with Roman and medieval
ruins, Caorle has chosen two strategies - bright colours for its houses and sculptors from different countries to make scultures on the rocks lining the
seaside area. Take a look at these pictures and you will agree that it is indeed a beautiful town.

It is difficult to take images of Venice - probably thousands of persons click millions of pictures of this city every day.
Thus for selecting my images to show on this page, I have tried to select images that try to show lesser known aspects of the city.
